Ashton
Market
Ashton-under-Lyne Town Centre (Junction
23 of the M60)
The cherished
market hall is on track for a spring 2008 launch and around £15
million is being spent on rebuilding the property after a massive
fire destroyed the Victorian Grade II listed building a few years
ago.
Work commenced
in January 2007 and the piling works have now been completed with
a webcam on progress on view on the council’s main website.
The popular
and only surviving features of the old market hall – the walls
and the famous clock tower will be retained and strengthened as
part of the new structure and local shoppers will be able to revisit
early next year.
