New life for the old heart of Stalybridge – and a haven for canal enthusiasts!
Construction work is rapidly advancing right in the heart of Stalybridge to bring new life and 26 upmarket waterside apartments to an area which over the years had become overgrown and neglected.
The new Lockside development, which occupies land known locally for many years as Buckley’s Yard, is located quite literally on the canal bank in one of the oldest and most picturesque parts of the town, where much of the charm and character of a bygone age has managed to survive.
Despite its tranquil, almost rural setting, the Lockside development lies within genuinely easy walking distance of all the shopping and social amenities of Stalybridge town centre, with the bus station and major supermarkets only minutes away on foot, and the nearby railway station offering a fast and frequent service into central Manchester. For drivers, the M60 Greater Manchester orbital motorway is less than 5 miles to the west.
Ashley Ladson, Director of Cheshire-based builders and developers Ladson Homes, commented: “Despite the run-down state of the site when we first saw it, we could see there was exciting scope for a waterside location, with views of the town and hills beyond. So our intention from the start was to build a visually exciting development to enhance the canal-side landscape”.
