In my last message, I believed that the last decade would be one of immense opportunity for Tameside, starting with the opening of the M60 in 2000. I also suggested that Tameside's Metropolitan Council must think big to attract private sector monies. Eight years later, I am delighted to see that East Manchester has truly begun to think big, and flourish as a result, with Ask Developments' scheme at St Petersfield a part of the picture.
Having learnt to swim at Hugh Mason House when I was a boy, Ashton-Under-Lyne is a place close to my heart and I am delighted that my company is involved in the regeneration of the area.
A mixed use development on the outskirts of Ashton, St Petersfield has seen a lot of activity over the last few years and has proved to be a popular choice for businesses selecting a town centre location ahead of out-of-town business parks. With the first phase now complete, alongside the multi-million pound public realm, Pennine Care NHS Trust has taken up residency and is enjoying the benefits of working within the local business community.
