When we started we had a vision for this area and its amazing to see, just six years later, just how much has been achieved and what a strong foundation we’ve built for the future.
The Tameside Economic Development Zone has been very, very successful…..all the statistics, all the data all the evidence…you know you just need to take a journey around Tameside, to see…when metal is coming out of ground, you know that there’s vibrancy and new life taking place that’s what the EDZ’s been able to create for us
Our new Tameside Economic Masterplan will focus on the promotion of the following spatial areas and will be developed alongside the development of the new Local Development Framework which will ultimately replace our UDP.
- The M60 Corridor
- The Tame(side Knowledge) Valley
- Town Centres and their surrounding communities
- New employment sites
- The east west corridors from Manchester to all parts of Tameside
Independent research tells us that 95 per cent of the market surveyed said that Tameside is a viable location for office based businesses and we are now looking at the sites we want to bring forward in the next 5 years to satisfy demand for knowledge based employment.
When I took over this role, one of the issues that Tameside had was that we were too much linked to our past, our manufacturing past. Manufacturers are and still will be the bedrock of a lot of the wealth created within this country but we need to make sure that as we move into the future we are looking at more knowledge based industries including within the manufacturing sector itself. |
