Supported
by £7.1m European Regional Development Fund, from Priority Three,
Strategic Regional Investment funds, the EDZ represents one of only
15 such zones in the North West. The funding will be used to support
key sites and is expected to lever in £50m investment over a
six year period.
The Tameside
EDZ: A regionally significant centre for employment growth, strategically
located at the gateway between East Manchester and the M60 corridor.
A high quality business environment which will project a positive
image of the region and which will provide opportunities for the
whole of the 'Greater East Manchester' community.
The Tameside
EDZ holds a strategic position within the Greater Manchester conurbation.
It forms an eastern extension of New
East Manchester. It occupies a gateway position with key transport
links between Merseyside, Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire
and onwards to the western European port of Rotterdam and the North
European Trade Axis.
It forms
an investment corridor around the newly completed M60 which offers
rapid access to the national motorway network. It contains Ashton
Moss, Parkway and Eastern Approach, three strategic regional development
sites. It will benefit from improved public
transport through completion of the Metrolink network through
New East Manchester to Ashton-under-Lyne via Droylsden, by 2007. |
